XM-1 Drawbar Sound Module and XMc-1 Drawbar Controller
“Stunning
Module/Drawbar Setup……”
(April 1997 Keyboard Magazine XM-1/XMc-1 Review)
Finally, A True-HAMMOND MIDI Drawbar
Module!
The HAMMOND XM-1 Drawbar Sound Module and XMc-1 Drawbar Controller are the closest
thing to having a B-3 and Leslie in your playing rig. The original B-3’s size and
weight have always been a problem. Some musicians choose the XB-2 keyboard or the XB-5
Pro-Portable organ, but others simply want a true Tonewheel Organ-sound MIDI Module and
real-time drawbar controller since they already own excellent keyboards or other MIDI
controllers.
The XM-1 is the MIDI Drawbar Sound Module that really sounds like a B-3, as only HAMMOND could make it!
The XM-1 is the latest professional solution to the weight/size problem which all
HAMMOND players have been trying to solve since the introduction of the Tonewheel
Generator. Beginning in the 1960’s, portable organs and keyboards were developed as
light-weight alternatives to the B-3, such as the Porta-B (really an L-100 in a portable
case), X-2, X-5, B-200, and most recently, the XB-2 keyboard and XB-5 Pro-Portable organ.
Although these earlier HAMMOND models offered several good alternatives to carrying
a B-3, many musicians recently requested that HAMMOND design a rack mountable /
stand alone self-contained MIDI Drawbar Sound Module with true HAMMOND sounds, an
adjustable Drawbar Controller that offers continuously adjustable or “real-time”
Drawbars plus the ability to change percussion, vibrato and other general settings with
easily accessible controls; all without having to make software changes.
HAMMOND engineers developed the XM-1 Drawbar Sound Module and matching XMc-1 Drawbar
Controller which together, feature all of the playing features found in a B-3 – separate
drawbars for upper, lower and pedals, Percussion, Chorus & Vibrato, etc., plus they
added full MIDI implementation, reverb, and a state-of-the-art Leslie simulator which
features adjustable Rise, Fall and Brake times as well as adjustable slow and fast speeds
for 10 different Leslie’s including the famous 122, 147, 710, 760 and 825 series.
The HAMMOND XM-1 / XMc-1 pair is an excellent choice for professional and amateur
organists / keyboard players worldwide who absolutely require the classic HAMMOND sound,
but in a full featured MIDI Module with a real-time Drawbar Controller.
Complete XM-1 Touring Packages including Leslie’s, road cases and
other custom options are available from GOFF Professional. If
you need the best HAMMOND Sound Module that can be rack mounted or used as a stand-alone
unit, the HAMMOND XM-1 is the professional choice!
The True HAMMOND Drawbar Sound of the B-3
The new HAMMOND XM-1 recreates all of the idiosyncrasies of the original
electro-mechanical Tonewheel Generator organs, including key click, tone generator
crosstalk; preamplifier overdrive / distortion and the famous HAMMOND
Drawbars. These tonal nuances were successfully captured using HAMMOND’s
latest V.A.S.E. sound generating system and form the basis for the classic sound.
The XM-1 and XMc-1 were meant to be stand-alone units in lieu of rack mount as
HAMMOND players need continuous access to the drawbars and module together for easy
changes, which are an important part of the true tonewheel generator sound. As many studio
and touring professional HAMMOND players have stated, the XM-1 has the finest and most
accurate Chorus of any other product other than a true B-3, C-3,
A-100 or similar model organ.
Back to Basics
The new XM-1 / XMc-1 pair weighs under 8 pounds and is the best choice
for players requiring the real HAMMOND sound in a full feature MIDI Drawbar Sound Module
which is either rack mountable or a stand-alone unit, all at a very reasonable cost.
Original Old Features and Special New Ones!
In the true tradition of the original B-3, the XM-1 / XMc-1 pair features HAMMOND
percussion, vibrato / chorus and many new features at the request of professional
organists and keyboard players, including special items found on GOFF Professional
custom touring quality HAMMOND’s such as adjustable percussion volume, adjustable
chorus level, reverb, Percussion / Drawbar volume correction and other special
options. It can be split into Upper, Lower and Pedals and controlled
from a Master Controller as a true B-3.
Full MIDI Implementation Highlights
- The HAMMOND XM-1 can perform in virtually any MIDI environment. as a 3-part
multi-timbral instrument for separate upper, lower and pedal keyboards. SEND and RECEIVE
channels are programmable.
- 32-polyphonic and 16-part multi-timbral performance capability; data can be saved to a
MIDI data recorder via a MIDI Data Dump feature.
On-Board HAMMOND Drawbar Patch Library
- The HAMMOND XM-1 contains a built-in library of 128 HAMMOND drawbar patches. 100 are
factory programmed and represent the most commonly used B-3 drawbar settings in Blues,
Jazz, Gospel, Country, Rock and other music styles. The remaining patches can be
user-defined custom patches and saved either as patches or as one of five presets
controlled individually from the XMc-1 Drawbar Controller. All presets can be user defined
and programmed.
Equipped with a State-of-the-Art Programmable Leslie
Simulator
- A specially designed, totally programmable Leslie simulator allows the user to customize
and store up to 10 different Leslie simulations. This is an especially
important feature, as the XM-1 allows the user to experience the inherent differences
among the classic tube Leslie model
122, known for its mellow sound; the 147 and its brighter sound;
the solid-state models 710, known for its mellower sound among solid-state
Leslie’s and equipped with a Rotosonic Drum; the “classic rock” screaming Model
760; and the Pro-Line single-rotor Model 825. The XM-1’s alterable Leslie parameters
include microphone placement, distance, angle, rise, fall and brake times, slow and fast
speeds, horn and bass rotor volume balance. Since a Leslie speaker is so much
a part of the total HAMMOND sound, the XM-1 features many internal Leslie options for
almost any musical environment.
Equipped with 1/4″ Line Out Jack –
Stereo or Mono
- A 1/4″ Line Out jack allows the XM-1/XMc-1 to be directly connected to a separate
sound system or Leslie speaker such as a 122, 147, etc. when used in
conjunction with any Leslie or TREK UC-1 Combo Pedal Preamp. If the 1/4″ Line Out
jack is used with a Pedal Preamp and Leslie, PRO-3T or another rotary horn device or
simulator, turn the XM-1’s on-board Leslie simulator OFF.
Custom Leslie Connector Kits are Available For Direct
Plug-in to many Leslie models including 122, 147 and most 11-pin model Leslie’s
A custom Leslie connector located on the rear panel of the XM-1 allows it to be
connected to many Leslie’s through special Leslie Connector Kits designed specifically
for this purpose. The optional Connector Kits are as follows:
- XM-22 Connector Kit – for
direct plug-in to Leslie models including the 21H, 22H, 31H
(above serial number 5200), 122, 122A, 122V, 122RV, 142, 222, 222RV, etc.
and most other balanced-line models equipped with a 21H, 22H, 31H (above SN 5200), or 122
amplifier.
- XM-47 Connector Kit – for
direct plug-in to Leslie models including the 25, 125, 225,
45, 47, 145, 147, 147A, 147RV, 247, 247RV
- XM-11 Connector Kit – for direct plug-in to many 11-pin
Leslie models including all current models.
Although the on-board Leslie simulator performs in a superior fashion to other Leslie
simulation devices, for the very best in classic HAMMOND sound reproduction, GOFF Professional
recommends that a Leslie be used. Please ask us about our XM-1 and
Leslie 122A,
147A, 771 and other Leslie model Touring Package Deals.
