R3-147 RACK
MOUNT
PREAMP / ROTARY HORN SYSTEM

“A
Live-Miked, Rack Mount, Rotating Horn System
Based on the Characteristics of the Classic
Leslie Model 147”
The Motion Sound R3-147 Rack Mount System
combines the new PRO-3T Rotating Horn Unit with a
convenient rack-mounted vacuum tube equipped
preamp complete with internal miking by four
adjustable microphones. The R3-147 is a full
rotary horn effects processor which allows the
user to have complete control over 23 accoustic
and audio parameters to allow for the finest
“true” rotary sound in a rack mount
unit in recording and live stage events. The
R3-147 is NOT a simulator and is the closest
thing to a rack-mounted Leslie! No electronic
simulator or other device can capture the true
rotary horn sound of the 147, 122 or other
classic models. Only a true Leslie or the Motion
Sound PRO-3T or R3-147 can accomplish what
professional musicians demand most – “The
Real Deal” in classic sound.
Enhanced
with a Real 12AX7 Vacuum Tube Preamp for Warmth!
The R3-147 has a 12AX7 vacuum tube in the
preamp for true “tube warmth” and dial
in front panel pre and post gain controls to
allow the user accurate distortion control from
slight distortion to a 70’s tube crunch
completely overdriven sound. A built-in Contour
(tone) Control allows the user to alter the
R3-147 sound from a bright solid-state amp sound
to the mellower 147 sound.
Technical
Information
The R3-147 is built around an accoustically
isolated and suspended PRO-3T, a powered rotary
“horn-only” unit which requires four
rack spaces . Patterned after the Leslie 147, the
R3-147 has a true “rotary horn” for
high frequencies, and a crossover and rotor
simulator which sends the bass frequencies to
1/4″ stereo output jacks for use with a
separate bass amp and speakers or Public Address
(PA) system. The R3-147 was designed to be used
where a rack mount unit is required, but an
accurate rotary horn sound is desirable.
The R3-147 has a 40-watt F.E.T. power
amplifier for the rotating horn, and a 12 Db /
octave crossover that is designed to cross over
at 800 hz , with frequencies 800 hz and above
directed to the rotating horn, and frequencies
below 800 hz directed to the rotor simulator and
out to the 1/4″ outputs. The bass should be
sent to a very-good quality bass amp and
speakers, and WILL have the rotary effect of a
Leslie bass-rotor due to the rotor simulator.
Complete user control is available for Upper
Horn Fast, Slow, Acceleration and Deceleration
rates; Lower Rotor Simulator Fast, Slow,
Acceleration and Deceleration rates, plus
additional control of AM and FM components and
cabinet open / closed variations in the Bass
Rotor Simulator. Left and Right microphones
controls allow for close / distant miking
variations of the four internal microphones. Horn
/ Rotor Balance controls are provided to tailor
the mix of high and low frequency sound.
MIDI control of Fast, Slow and Stop functions
are included. The 1/4″ foot switch supplied
with the R3-147 controls both the upper horn unit
speed-change and the bass rotor simulator
speed-change simultaneously. An enhanced lower
rotor simulator with a front panel AM modulation
control allows the user to tweak the bass rotor
sound to suit the situation and equipment. The
optional Motion Sound GAS PEDAL described below
will allow for variable speed control of the
R3-147.
